Described as “Pixar meets Miyazaki meets Jim Henson,” Wonderheads’ award-winning The Wild will take audiences on a heartwarming adventure on February 29th.
Vernon & District Performing Arts Center will present the final performance of its 2023-24 Spotlight Season Theater Series.
Wendell discovers that his wife Tilda and their beloved tree are missing from their backyard and must risk everything and venture into the nearby woods to bring them home. .
Faced with a changing landscape, exotic creatures, and a mysterious lurking presence, Wendell quickly learns that the key to finding Tilda is first solving the mysteries of The Wild.
Fascinating and deeply moving, this wordless, award-winning show is characterized as “living animation” and features the Wonderheads’ signature masks, whimsical puppetry, and mesmerizing music. .
“Wonderheads are masterful visual storytellers. Their wordless performances are sweet, evocative, and magical,” says VDPAC Artistic Director Erin Kennedy.
The Wilds features Pedro M. Siqueira as Wendell, Loreto Espinoza as Tilda, and other wild creatures. Audiences can expect to encounter performers wearing handmade masks, revealing deep, funny, and heartwarming depths. This piece explores themes of sadness, loss, and love. Recommended for general audiences ages 8 and up.
Wonderheads is a multi-award winning physical theater company specializing in masked performance and visual storytelling.
Founded by Heads co-founders Kate Braidwood and Andrew Phoenix, the company is driven by a mission to inspire imagination. Braidwood is a multi-faceted artist and professional mask maker, dedicated to creating original physical works. Phoenix is a versatile artist and teacher who brings her passion for originality and innovation to the stage.
Braidwood welcomed the comparison to “live-action Pixar,” which is often used to describe the company’s work, adding, “Like Pixar, we strive to create funny, engaging films that resonate with all ages.” We’re aiming to produce a program that’s unique, so this is a real compliment.” Phoenix says. “This show reflects our passion for exploring profound themes through a fantastical lens, and we aim to make each audience member laugh, cry, and gasp in amazement.”
