The Fairmont Hotel in Winnipeg is back in the hands of a familiar owner after a Winnipeg-based company announced this week that it would acquire the hotel.
James Richardsons & Sons Ltd. announced Thursday that it had acquired the hotel. The corporation said in a release that the hotel will continue to operate under the Fairmont brand.
Don Sollman, chairman of Lombard Hospitality Ltd., a subsidiary of the corporation, said, “The Fairmont has long been recognized, thanks in large part to our outstanding team, who provide the highest standards of service and hospitality to the hotel’s guests and visitors. “It has been considered one of Winnipeg’s finest hotels.” release.
“We intend to further invest in this property to ensure that this property and the entire downtown area continue to be the destination of choice for visitors to Winnipeg and event planners for the City of Winnipeg.”

Winnipeg’s Fairmont Hotel was originally developed and owned by a subsidiary of James Richardsons & Sons until it was sold in 2000, according to a release. The acquisition will form part of the Richardson Center, according to the release. Richardson Building, 161 Portage Ave. East Office Building, Richardson Center Concourse, Richardson Center Parked.
Hartley Richardson, the company’s president and CEO, said in a release that the company is committed to the growth of the city’s downtown.
“This city’s core is an essential part of its identity, vitality and reputation. (We) are making this investment with the utmost confidence in the future of downtown, which is home to our flagship businesses. ” said Richardson.
