MLA Sangeet Som said the move is not good for the future of western UP.
Meerut:
Reacting to Union Minister Sanjeev Balian’s suggestion that western Uttar Pradesh should become an independent state, former BJP MLA Sangeet Som said on Tuesday that if that happens, the region will become a “mini-Pakistan”. He said he was deaf.
Instead, western UP should be merged with Delhi, said Som, a prominent BJP leader in the region.
Som was reacting to Union Minister Balian’s remarks that western UP should become an independent state with Meerut as its capital.
“Union minister Sanjeev Balian has floated the idea of making western UP an independent state. But this is not good for the future of western UP. If that happens, western UP will become a mini-Pakistan. ” Som told reporters here.
Som, a two-time MLA from Sardana, also said Hindus would become a minority in western UP if it becomes a separate state as the population of certain communities is increasing.
“Such areas will not develop, but the political scenario will definitely change,” he said.
However, Som said western UP should be made part of Delhi. “It would be better if an initiative was taken to join western UP and Delhi,” said a former Bharatiya Janata Party MLA.
“The western state of Uttar Pradesh should become an independent state and Meerut should be its capital. The region has a population of 8 billion and the High Court here said at the International Jat Congress held here on Sunday, Balian said. It is 750 kilometers away from the Therefore, this request is completely justified. ”
