Although the opening was later than expected, owner Karen Spice says business has been strong.

sue today I first spoke with Spice in June 2023, when Spice was listed as a Bakery Sue franchise on the COBS Bread website.
Spice had hoped to open by August, but after several construction delays, the official opening took place on November 9th.
“I was really happy to open after a long wait. All great things require patience,” Spice said. sue today Thursday.
“Customers literally lined up out the door for quite some time,” Spice said, recalling the first day he opened.
“It was busy. It was very nice. The customers were great. They didn’t mind waiting in line. The staff were great. We had our staff come to work early so we could accommodate them. I had them work longer shifts. I expected it to be busy, but I didn’t expect it to be this busy.”
COBS Bread bakes a wide variety of fresh breads and sweets in-store every day.
COBS Bread has more than 150 stores across Canada.
Spice spends long days at the bakery with her husband and bakery co-owner Matt.
“Some days I’m here at 3 a.m., and other days I’m here all day and into the evening. At that time, we were in the early stages of training our staff well. There are certainly a lot of long hours. I We are here almost 24/7 and at various times to support our staff.”
The bakery opens at 6 a.m. and closes at 8 p.m. daily.
However, Spice said, “Thanks to our team, it’s less stressful.”
Spyce’s team includes nine bakers and 17 front counter staff, with a mix of full-time and part-time employees, including students on nights and weekends.
“The support from our family, friends, and community has made running our business much easier. This is our first business venture, but our team is very good and they It deserves all the credit because we can’t do anything without it,” Spice said.
“The rewards are seeing happy faces come through the door and leaving with freshly baked bread every day, and meeting repeat customers and getting to know them and seeing them come in. Sometimes it’s about knowing what you like.”
In accordance with COBS Bread’s End of Day Giving program, Spyce donates unsold baked goods to people in need at the end of each day.
The local COBS Bread bakery is donating unsold baked goods to Pauline’s Place, ARCH, Larimer Group Home, HM Robbins Public School, Ben R. McMullin Public School, and River View Public School.
“I like that about it,” Spice said of COBS Bread’s commitment to giving back to the community, adding that her store will soon be participating in a fundraiser for the Alzheimer’s Association Sault Ste. Marie & Algoma area.
