A federal investigation into foreign election interference is expected to scrutinize the activities of a special committee tasked with monitoring and reporting on threats to Canada’s last two elections.
The task force aims to coordinate security and intelligence agencies to prevent foreign interference during federal elections.
Members of the special committee are scheduled to testify at the inquiry’s latest hearing in Ottawa on Friday.
Earlier this week, the committee heard from political party officials who received confidential briefings from the task force in 2021.
They criticized these briefings as high-level and not specific, and said they were never informed of any active threats during the last election.
The committee will also hear evidence from Allen Sutherland, assistant cabinet secretary in the Privy Council Chamber.
