Sony has inked a deal with developer Far From Home to secure Forever Skies as a PlayStation 5 console exclusive, scheduled to launch at some point in 2024.
First-person post-apocalyptic survival game Forever Skies was released in early access on Steam in June, and will make its console-exclusive debut on PS5 once early access ends later this year, with a release on Steam the same day.
According to Far From Home, Sony Interactive Entertainment is providing development support and funding as part of the Forever Skies partnership.
Far From Home has moved to reassure PC players that this deal won’t affect their version. “Forever Skies will make its console debut on PS5 once Early Access is complete, alongside the full launch on Steam,” the developer said in a statement.
Gameplay Lead Andrzej Blumenfeld said, “Far From Home was focused on working with PlayStation to make Forever Skies the best console debut ever.” “As such, we plan to release the full game on PS5 for consoles once we are ready to release it in its entirety after PC Early Access ends. However, this is subject to ongoing development and the release of the Steam version, which will be released at the same time. Please rest assured that this will not affect you.”
The final version of the game will support both single-player and up to four-player co-op, Far From Home added.
This news comes on the heels of Sony’s surprise announcement that it will not release any major games in existing PlayStation franchises until April 2025. While this leaves the door open for the release of new intellectual property and minor games from Sony’s major franchises, it’s clear that the company is moving forward. I’m looking for a “second party” game to fill the gap. Arrowhead Studios’ Helldivers 2 is a recent example. Square Enix’s Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth will be available soon exclusively on PS5. This year’s externally developed Stellar Blade and Rise of the Ronin are also exclusive to his PS5.
