According to the official new IRCC update: Pearson Canada Inc.’s Pearson Test of English (PTE Core) language test is now accepted for Canadian immigration starting January 30, 2024.
In addition, Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada will also accept electronic copies of language test results.
However, PTE cores are not accepted for Canadian study visas or permits under the Student Direct Stream (SDS).
Readers often confuse this with the PTE Academic test for an SDS (Student Direct Stream) study permit or visa. However, PTE Core is only available for permanent residence and economic immigration programs.
Simple PTE Academic will continue to be valid for SDS study visas and permits as of August 10, 2023, as well as three new English language proficiency exams.
Economic programs include the Express Entry Category, Provincial Nomination Program (PNP), Caregivers, Agriculture and Food Pilot, Rural and Northern Immigration Pilot (RNIP), Economic Mobility Pathways Project (EMPP), Atlantic Immigration Program, and Quebec Skilled Labor. This includes passengers and business class.
