RCMP have charged a 30-year-old Montreal man with threatening to kill Prime Minister Justin Trudeau in a social media post.
Paul Clarisse was charged with threatening the prime minister after allegedly making the comments on his X account (formerly Twitter).
RCMP said in a statement: “The RCMP takes seriously all threats that may impact safety. Violent language will not be tolerated.” “Perpetrators may face criminal charges with significant sentencing implications.”
The force announced the charges were laid on Jan. 31 after a short investigation by the RCMP’s Integrated National Security Enforcement Team.
Clarisse is scheduled to appear in court in Montreal on Wednesday to answer the charges.
The prime minister’s office said it does not comment on security issues involving the prime minister.
