(RTTNews) – Microsoft is making breakthrough advances in artificial intelligence (AI) to transform the way news is reported.
The tech giant is working with various news organizations to deploy generative AI technology by providing journalists with AI-powered tools aimed at enhancing news reporting.
One notable collaboration is with Semafor, a news startup founded by former BuzzFeed editor-in-chief Ben Smith. Semafor has created a feed called “Signals,” sponsored with significant investment from Microsoft, that highlights breaking news and analysis through approximately 12 posts each day.
All articles are written by journalists and AI acts as an investigative tool. Semafor’s team uses AI tools to quickly find breaking news reports in multiple languages from a variety of news sources around the world, with journalists providing context and summarizing different perspectives.
Noreen Gillespie, a former AP journalist now at Microsoft, emphasized the importance of journalists leveraging these tools to stay relevant in the industry.
Microsoft also announced partnerships with the Craig Newmark School of Journalism, the GroundTruth Project, the Online News Association, and other journalism organizations.
The company says its goal is to help newsrooms, universities, journalists, and industry organizations leverage AI to grow their audiences, streamline newsroom operations, and establish sustainable business operations. It states that it is something to do.
