In response to the grounding of Lynx Airlines, WestJet decided to cut costs.
In response to Lynx Airways’ suspension of flights, WestJet limited fares on some routes and offered discounts on others.
Lynx Airlines announced on Thursday night (February 22) that it would suspend operations due to intense market competition, rising fuel costs, rising operating costs, exchange rates and airport fees.
The Calgary-based airline will cease operations as of Sunday (February 25) at 11:01 p.m. However, the airline said it is “unable to operate many flights scheduled for the weekend as we work to bring our aircraft, crew, and as many passengers home as possible.”
Once Lynx closes, travel and flight tickets will no longer be available.
WestJet also reduced ticket prices on some of its Lynx routes and offered repatriation to travelers on low-priced cross-border and Sun flights.
“We recognize that this information has an immediate impact on Lynx passengers and employees, and we are committed to assisting in any way possible through a number of actions,” the airline said in a release.
The airline is also in contact with government officials and aid agencies working to assist stranded customers.
