Swedish furniture giant IKEA will move its Masonville Place boutique store to a “new and improved” location in south London next month.
IKEA canceled plans to open a full-scale store in London four years ago, but opened a smaller store in Masonville Place in 2021.

IKEA initially provided design and planning services from a location called the London Design Studio in North London Mall. The location has become what the company calls a “Plan and Order” outlet, where shoppers can talk to IKEA experts and order items for the kitchen, bedroom, bathroom and living room.

IKEA announced in October 2023 that it is planning a new planning and ordering outlet at 3120 Wonderland Road. S. The company announced Tuesday that the outlet will open on March 6.
Ikea spokeswoman Meghan Hogan said the Masonville Place store was designed “as a short-term concept to support customers with personalized design and planning services.”
“Our goal was to test and evaluate the concept and decide whether to scale up or take the next step,” she said. “We have seen a positive response from our customers to the services offered at our current location in London and are excited to scale up by opening a new, larger plan and order point location.”
The Masonville Place store will be closed on Sunday.
Inna Romagnoli, country business development and transformation manager for IKEA Canada, said a recent survey found that up to 50 per cent of Canadians are “considering moving or renovating their home in the next two years.”
“We want to support them by providing affordable and inspiring home furnishing solutions that meet the needs of evolving homes,” said Romagnoli. “We’re excited to bring an advanced planning experience to London… Help us help our neighbors and take the guesswork out of planning their dream spaces.”

The new location will offer both walk-in and appointment-based planning services.
Once the order is completed, customers can have the item delivered directly to their home or local IKEA pick-up location.
In 2017, IKEA announced plans to open a full-time store in London, south of the 401 motorway and Wellington Road, near Costco. The company confirmed it had entered into a contract to purchase the site.
IKEA postponed plans for the store in 2018 as the retail industry changed with the shift to online sales with Amazon and Wayfair.
The company announced in 2020 that it would no longer pursue a London location.
