In a historic move, King Charles opens the doors of Balmoral Castle to the public. The palace said on its website that Scotland’s royal palace will be open to the public “for the first time since the castle was completed in 1855”. Earlier this week, it was revealed that both Balmoral Palace and Buckingham Palace are welcoming visitors in new ways.

The royal family had previously allowed visitors to take tours of Balmoral, but permission was limited to the palace grounds and gardens. At that time, public access to the castle was limited to the banquet hall. The tour description on the Balmoral Castle website says: “You’ll discover why Balmoral is such a special place – the much-loved and famous Highland home of the Royal Family.”
As part of a guided tour inside the castle, visitors can take a private tour. The website states that experienced guides will “take you on a historical journey through some of the beautiful rooms within Balmoral Castle”. What makes this tour even more intimate is the fact that the late Queen Elizabeth spent her final days at Balmoral Castle.
“Learn about the origins of the castle and how it has been loved by royalty for generations. Travel through time from the purchase of Balmoral by Queen Victoria and Prince Albert to the present day.” and see how the King, Queen and other members of the royal family use each room in the castle today,” the website adds.
Private tours will be held from July 1st to August 4th, with a capacity of 10 people per person. According to the website, a typical guided tour costs $126 per person. Meanwhile, tickets cost $189 per person, including an afternoon tea break. Please note that the tour is for adults only.
