Jay Leno’s request for conservatorship of his wife Mavis Leno’s estate was granted at a hearing in a Los Angeles courtroom on Tuesday.
A judge found Jay Leno “fit and qualified” to be appointed conservator of the estate, according to documents filed in Los Angeles Superior Court after the hearing.
According to court documents, the judge also ruled that Mavis Reno is “incapable” of managing her household finances independently due to the fact that she lives with dementia, and that “an estate conservatorship is necessary and appropriate.” The court found “clear and convincing evidence that the
The judge also determined that a conservatorship was the “least restrictive alternative” needed to protect Mavis Reno.
CNN has reached out to his agent, Mavis Leno, for comment. A representative for Jay Leno declined to comment.
In January, the 73-year-old comedian and former “Tonight Show” host filed a petition asking to be made conservator of his wife’s estate so he can carry out estate planning on her behalf.
Jay Leno believes he “would do so if he had the ability” to carry out his estate plan, according to a filing earlier this year. He primarily managed the couple’s finances throughout his marriage and continued to do so at the time, he said.
The couple has been married for over 43 years.
