The Alaska State Department of Health recently reported the first death from Alaska pox, an orthopoxvirus that can be transmitted from animals to humans.
This is the seventh case of Alaska pox reported since the virus was first identified in 2015. It is also the first discovered outside of Fairbanks, Alaska.
“Alaskapox is a rare disease, so Alaskans should not be overly concerned about this virus.
