Less than six months after Drake bet $500,000 on Israel Adesanya to knock out Sean Strickland, he’s making an even bigger bet on the reigning middleweight champion ahead of UFC 297.
The famous rapper unveiled the massive $700,000 bet placed on Strickland to defeat Doricas du Plessis in Saturday night’s main event. Unlike his last bet on Adesanya, which Strickland spoiled by taking the 185-pound belt with a one-sided win, Drake won’t be trying to predict the finish this time around.
Instead, he’s simply betting on Strickland to win, the 37-year-old hip-hop superstar who could pocket a whopping $1,379,000 if his bet hits.
Strickland remains the slim favorite against du Plessis. draft kings The UFC middleweight champion is currently ranked -112 with just hours left until the event. That means if Strickland successfully defends his title, he would need to bet $112 to get his $100 back.
In an Instagram post, Drake also announced that he will be competing at UFC 297 in his hometown of Toronto on Saturday.
Drake has become a huge fan of UFC events, placing large bets on them before almost every major pay-per-view.
Of course, Drake misses more bets than hits, which has earned him a reputation as a curse for the fighters and sports teams he’s supported in the past. The list of fighters who lost their fortunes to Drake’s bet includes Adesanya, Conor McGregor, Jorge Masvidal and Justin Gaethje.
In other words, Strickland may be looking to avoid crossing ladders or crossing paths with black cats heading into UFC 297. Because he may already be fighting an uphill battle with Drake’s support.
