MEXICO CITY – UFC CEO Dana White was captivated by the heated crowd fighting at Saturday’s UFC Fight Night 237.
Footage has surfaced of an altercation between people in the stands during the main card of the event at the Mexico City Arena. It was very noticeable that one of the players featured on the card asked fans to calm down in the post-fight interview, and White noticed that as well.
White was asked about the situation during the UFC Fight Night 237 post-fight press conference and whether he thought it painted the UFC in a bad light. He shut down the concept, but his explanation of his perspective was lively.
“Does it seem like fights in the crowd aren’t good for the UFC? That’s never going to happen. That’s literally never going to happen,” White told MMA Junkie and other reporters. “It happened here in Mexico City. The crazy thing about that fight was when it started, it felt like it lasted forever. So I ran there and watched it. No one stopped it. I waited for the security guard to come and he left them alone until the situation was over.
“That was one of the craziest things I’ve ever seen. I don’t think it’s bad for the UFC. It happened and that was it. After everyone saw how that shit ended. , I don’t think anyone thought to try it again. There was no security. The fight went on until it was over. I’ve never seen shit like that in my life.”
White is wrong in saying crowd fights never occur at UFC events, but he is correct in that big fights like Saturday’s are not common.
White did not say whether he was aware of any medical or legal fallout from those involved.
