Cody Rhodes recently reflected on how he initially gave up the main event of WrestleMania to The Rock and how fans were focused on The Rock vs. Roman Reigns. Rose spoke about this in an interview with Ariel Helwani on The MMA Hour. Highlights can be seen below (per fight full):
About the return of The Rock: “Even after losing to The Rock in the main event, I was like, ‘I’m going to find my own way.’ I still thought that. That’s one of the reasons I stayed quiet. Opinions on it I didn’t want to go into the behind-the-scenes details. What was there was what was there. I just had the feeling that we could still make it. After that, thankfully, there were literally hundreds. Ten thousand people could have me back.”
Regarding what Locke said to him after he abandoned the scene: “I’d rather have him say that. It was something…this is the best answer I can give you. It was such a touching thing, but my heart is broken by the fact that it was taken away from me.” I was feeling negative about the positive things that were said to me. The Rock will tell you what he said. I’ll leave it to him,” Rose said.
Here’s how he felt after the fans aired Rock vs. Reigns: “I just wanted to be quiet. Amidst all the noise, I wanted to be quiet. Maybe that’s arrogance, maybe I’m naive. At that point, I was like, ‘No, I’ve done everything.’ I felt that. I kept thinking that something good would come out of this terrible situation. Something good will come out of it. When I spoke to Diamond Dallas Page, he said, “No matter what happens, it’s going to be the best thing that ever happened to you.” You’ll want to. He wasn’t wrong. Imagine if I hadn’t been in the main event of WrestleMania 40. The fire will still be burning. It’s completely out of control at this point. Hunter heard it, so we didn’t have to. He heard what was going on. It was so loud that he needed to hear it and I was lucky to be there. ”
