Multiple AEW officials are said to have been hoping for an interview like the one Punk had with Helwani, and just hoping it would be the last we hear about the incident for both sides for a while. Sammy Guevara reportedly tweeted support for the company, not attacking Punk, but supporting the company itself.
WWE talent and executives expected Punk to have to deal with his departure from AEW, as injured WWE stars have little to do during WrestleMania season other than interviews and media appearances.
