Will Ferrell attended the Sundance Film Festival to give the world premiere of his new documentary “Will & Harper,” which focuses on the relationship between the beloved comedian and his best friend Harper Steele during a road trip. The two met on “Saturday Night Live,” for which Harper wrote the scripts, from 1995 to 2008. Harper came out as transgender in 2022.

Ferrell said she had “zero knowledge” about the trans community before Harper came out.
“I’ve met transgender people, but I’ve never had anyone in my life personally,” Ferrell said. “So this was completely new territory for me. That’s why I think it’s so exciting for us to release this film to the world. This is an opportunity for all of us in the cis community to ask questions and You can just be there as a friend to listen and talk about this journey.”
“This film is about a transgender cis friend who has to transition herself,” Harper added.
The official synopsis for “Will & Harper” reads as follows: “When Will Ferrell learns that his best friend of 30 years has come out as a trans woman, the two embark on a cross-country road trip to help them navigate this new phase. This intimate portrait of friendship, change, and America. ”
Ferrell produced the documentary along with Jessica Elbaum, Rafael Marmor, and Christopher Leggett. The film is directed and produced by Josh Greenbaum.
