‘We still live in fear’: fleeing Lebanon attack

As the bombing continued, Khalid and his family decided they had to flee. They are among at least 800 people currently seeking refuge at this United Nations compound south of Beirut after fleeing fighting between Israel and Hezbollah. Since last week, Israeli air strikes on Lebanon have killed more than 700 people and forced more than 90,000 from their homes. For Khalid, like many people taking refuge here, this is not the first time he has been forced to flee war. In just a few days, hundreds of such facilities were set up across Lebanon to protect people displaced by the violence. Many of the people here are Syrians and Palestinian refugees living in Lebanon. For Imad Ahmed, a Palestinian refugee living in southern Lebanon, this is the third time he has had to flee war with Israel. But this time I had to do it with the kids. Dozens of people outside are trying to get in, but are being turned away because the facility doesn’t have space to welcome them. With the number of internally displaced persons increasing, Lebanese authorities fear a humanitarian crisis is imminent if fighting continues.
