At a memorial service on New Year’s Eve, Valerie Bertinelli reflected on the past year and counted her blessings.
The iconic sitcom star, 63, who recently quit alcohol to lose weight, has accepted her Instagram On Sunday night, she gave thanks for the “pure joy” she experienced throughout the year by sharing a montage of her 2023 milestones.
“This year has been a tough journey,” she wrote alongside the epic video. “In the opening Her clip (shot on January 1, 2023) you can see a sense of relief and even a little bit of fear. And then there’s the sheer joy that begins to take root as you find your way back to yourself throughout the year. I understand.”
In the clip, Valerie shared photos from her vacation in Amsterdam, excerpts from her son Wolfgang Van Halen’s performance with his band Mammoth WVH, and highlights from Wolfgang’s wedding.
Valerie also posted photos of herself on tour with Taylor Swift, a trip to Paris, and a new tattoo.

“I am so grateful for my family and friends. Being able to finally spend free time with them is a source of great comfort, joy, cheerfulness, and healing. I love them all.” she continued.
“And I’m grateful for the community here online,” she added. “I want you to know that you helped me too.
“So, do you have a favor to ask?” Enjoy life to the fullest. The good, the bad, and the ugly. Feel everything and then do your best to release what doesn’t belong to you.
“Don’t put up with the unbearable. You deserve better. We all agree. We deserve the best this life has to offer. We deserve better. Enough is enough, and I am so grateful to each and every one of you. Let’s have a glorious 2024!”
In October, the One Day at a Time alum played a role in marking the wedding of Wolfgang and his partner Andria Alsop at a mansion in Los Angeles.
The musician and Andria, who have been dating for eight years, exchanged vows on October 15, coinciding with the anniversary of their first date in 2015.
Wolfgang wore a custom-made black three-piece suit for the occasion.
Accompanied by his mother, he strolled down the aisle to songs written by his late father, Eddie Van Halen, who passed away at age 65 from throat cancer in 2020.

“I think Ed would have had a big smile on his face and I’m very proud of the person that Wolfie has become, and I’m still becoming that person, and I’m sure he really understands Wolfie and appreciates who he is. Valerie and Eddie, guitarist for the iconic band Van Halen, were married from 1981 to 2007. They welcomed son Wolfgang, now 30, together in 1991.
In her memoir Enough: Learning to Love Me Today, Valerie reveals that Eddie’s last words to her before he died were “I love you.”
As her cancer spread and the prospect of death grew closer, Valerie, who grew closer to Eddie, recalled the touching gift he gave her a year before his death.
Eddie had bought a pendant-sized gold bar for Valerie, who was undergoing cancer treatment in Germany.

The rocker requested to speak to her privately on Thanksgiving 2019 and gave her a touching gift after going to his friend’s car and talking.
“I hope you don’t think it’s strange that I bought this gift for my ex-wife and she got nothing,” Eddie said, tears in his eyes. ‘I just love it. ‘

Valerie ultimately filed for legal separation from second husband Tom Vitale in November 2021, but said her “love” for Eddie played no role in the divorce.
“We grew estranged,” the Hot in Cleveland actress said. “This decision has nothing to do with my love for Ed. I wish Tom the best and I think he feels the same way about me.”
In November 2023, she celebrated one year since her divorce from Tom was completed.
