Federal prosecutors filed a new lawsuit Monday. Court filings Ryan Routh, the suspected assassin of Donald Trump, allegedly stalked the former president for a month before his arrest last week outside a Florida golf course.
On Aug. 14, “Routh traveled from Greensboro, North Carolina to West Palm Beach, Florida,” according to the criminal complaint.
“On multiple dates and times between August 18, 2024 and September 15, 2024, Routh’s cell phone accessed cell towers located near the former president’s residences at Trump International and Mar-a-Lago,” documents filed in the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of Florida state.
Routh is charged with possession of a firearm by a convicted felon and possession of a firearm with an obliterated serial number.
The application was made ahead of Louth’s schedule. Appearance in Court The documents filed Monday also detailed the contents of a handwritten letter found inside a box opened Wednesday by a witness who told investigators that Routh had left the box several months prior to Sept. 15. The box “contained ammunition, metal pipes, various construction materials, tools, four phones and various letters,” according to the documents.
“The handwritten letter addressed to ‘the world’ included statements such as, ‘This was an assassination attempt on Donald Trump and I have let you all down,'” the filing revealed.
“‘I did my best and used all the courage I had,'” the letter said, according to court documents.
Prosecutors also said investigators found plates “capable of intercepting small arms fire” on a backpack and shopping bag linked to Routh.
“During a search of the Nissan Xterra” used by Routh, “FBI agents discovered two additional license plates,” court documents state.
A chain link fence surrounds the perimeter of Trump International and the southeast corner of the course is overgrown with trees and bushes. As shown on the map, the 6th hole of the course is located near the southeast corner.

“Investigators also found six cell phones, one of which contained Google searches for directions from Palm Beach County to Mexico,” the complaint states. “Investigators also found 12 additional cell phones.
one pair of gloves, a Hawaii driver’s license in the defendant’s name, and a passport in the defendant’s name.”
FBI agents also found “a handwritten list of dates and venues where the former President had appeared or was expected to appear in August, September and October 2024,” the filing said.
