MONTREAL – Toronto’s Kappou Sato has earned the top spot on Air Canada’s 2023 list of Canada’s Best New Restaurants.
Led by Chef Takeshi Sato, this Japanese restaurant has also earned the prestigious Michelin star and features a tasting menu that is all prepared right in front of guests.
Whistler steakhouse Wild Blue came in second, followed by Victorian seafood restaurant Marilena Cafe and Raw Bar in third place.
The Top 10 list will be featured in the November issue of Air Canada’s enRoute magazine and online at CanadasBestNewRestaurants.com.
These restaurants were chosen by food critic Amy Rosen, author of Canada’s Best New Cookbook, a collection of recipes from restaurants that have made the top 10 list.
The 2023 list features restaurants opening nationwide from late spring 2022 to June 2023 that offer an “exceptional experience” in terms of food quality, service and culinary creativity.
Now in its 22nd year, Air Canada says it is the longest-running cross-border restaurant ranking and the only one to use a “single anonymous reviewer.”
Here’s a summary of the top 10 list:
Rizzo’s House of Palms in Fort Erie, Ontario.
Petit Socco in Winnipeg
Bonheur de Cursion in Montreal
Folke in Vancouver
Le Molière par Mousso in Montreal
Espace Old Mill in Stanbridge East, Kenya.
