Just a week after Toyota released the first teaser for the new 4Runner, the automaker has revealed a few more details about the upcoming truck. In images and videos released today, Toyota showed off one of the 4Runner SUV’s signature features: a roll-down rear window. The automaker also confirmed that the 4Runner will debut next Tuesday, April 9th.
The sixth-generation 4Runner replaces its predecessor after 15 years on the market. Although it is an old story in automotive terminology, 4Runner Enjoying a surge in sales in the US Last year’s U.S. sales were 109,951 units, down from 2021’s peak of 144,469 units, but higher than sales of the first-year model. This is unprecedented in the auto industry.
Like the new Land Cruiser, Tacoma, Tundra, Sequoia, Lexus GX and LX, the sixth-generation 4Runner is powered by Toyota’s TGNA-F truck platform. As before, it will be a body-on-frame beast and should fit under the new Land Cruiser in Toyota’s off-road lineup.
We suspect the 4Runner will share its powertrain with the new Tacoma pickup. This means it will be based on a 2.4-liter turbocharged four-cylinder engine, with a hybrid drivetrain potentially an option in the future. In the base Tacoma this engine produces 220 horsepower, but in most other models it increases to 278 horsepower. The hybrid i-Force Max powertrain combines the same engine and electric motor to produce 326 horsepower.
