Suzanne Shepard, known for playing leading female characters on “The Sopranos” and “Goodfellas,” died on Friday. She was 89 years old.
The actress played Karen Hill’s (Lorraine Bracco) mother on 1990’s Goodfellas and Carmela Soprano’s (Edie Falco) mother on The Sopranos.
Shepard’s death was announced. Via Facebook actor and real estate agent Tom Titone said Saturday. Shepard, who lived on Manhattan’s Upper West Side, “passed away peacefully” early Friday morning, he said.
“I studied with Suzanne as a young actor. She saw things in me that I didn’t see in myself yet,” Titone said in a series of photos she took of Shepard. Added a caption.
“She introduced me to my husband. She officiated our wedding with family and friends gathered under a beautiful observation deck in Central Park.” , I will always be grateful.”
He added: “Her presence was big. A big personality. She roared at it with vigor. May she now rest.”
“She is a powerful actress and a force to work with,” Bracco told Page Six in an exclusive email. “Rest in peace.”
Shepard was also known for roles in films such as “Requiem for a Dream,” “Dirty Shame,” “Uncle Buck,” and “Mystic Pizza.”

She also made guest appearances on the TV shows ‘Ed,’ ‘Law & Order,’ and ‘Blue Bloods.’

“Sad to hear of the passing of Suzanne Shepard. A force of nature. Actress, teacher. Played Carmela’s mother on ‘The Sopranos’ and Karen’s mother on ‘Goodfellas,'” he wrote on Saturday.
Shepard was a longtime regional theater director and acting coach trained by Sanford Meisner, and is survived by his daughter, artist Kate Shepard. her son-in-law, Miles; her daughter-in-law Joyce; and her granddaughter Isabel, According to The Sun.
Titone added that Shiva festivals will be held on Monday and Tuesday for the shepherds.
