Space agency releases fascinating photos of the moon
As we usher in 2023, space agencies like the Indian Space Research Organization (ISRO), National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA), and the International Space Station (ISS) have released remarkable photos of the Moon. These images not only highlighted the beauty of the celestial bodies, but also provided further insight into the Earth’s surface and atmosphere.
Different perspectives on the moon
ISRO’s Chandrayaan-3 lander has captured a unique image of the Earth and the Moon just before it touched down at the Moon’s South Pole. This mission marked a significant achievement in India’s lunar exploration program. Meanwhile, NASA Earth shared awe-inspiring photos from the ISS. This image depicted the Moon in its waning giant phase, appearing in Earth’s orbit. The photo provided a view of the Syrian desert and Lake Assad, taken from an incredible 452 miles above the ground.
Revisiting historic photos
NASA also reconsidered history by releasing photos of Apollo 8 taken in 1968. This image shows a detailed view of a nearly full moon and is reminiscent of pioneering lunar exploration. The ISS contributed to this lunar photo collection by sharing photos of the waning Gibbs Moon as it sinks beyond Earth’s atmosphere. This spectacular sight was photographed from above the South Pacific Ocean.
Moon: Lighthouse at night
NASA also shared images taken from the ISS during the night. This stunning photo highlights the moon floating above the Earth as airglow wraps around it. Street lights in two American cities, Chicago and denver, it was clearly visible from space. These images not only showcase the beauty of the Moon, but also summarize humanity’s progress in space exploration.
