A brief but severe storm is expected to develop over Victoria and the southern Gulf Islands on Monday night.
Environment Canada issued a warning of strong southeasterly winds of 70 km/h to 90 km/h starting in the evening, but the winds should subside by midnight.
“Loose items may be blown away by the wind and cause injury or damage.” Environment Canada says in a notice:. “Strong winds may blow objects or break tree branches. Power outages to public facilities may occur.”
Due to the effects of the storm, BC Ferries canceled operations on six separate routes.
Departs at 12pm, 4pm and 7pm Tsawwassen Flights departing from Swartz Bay at 2pm, 6pm and 9pm have been cancelled.
There were two cancellations on the Tsawwassen to Duke Point route, with the 8:15 p.m. departure from Tsawwassen and the 10:45 p.m. departure from Nanaimo.
Two flights between Horseshoe Bay and Departure Bay have been canceled: one departing from Departure Bay at 8:45 p.m. and the other departing from Horseshoe Bay at 10:10 p.m.
while Comox River and Powell Riverthe 3:25pm and 7:10pm departures from Comox, and the 5:15pm and 8:45pm departures from Powell River have been cancelled.
Two flights between Cuadra Island and Cortez Island were canceled. Departs from Quadra Island at 3:05 PM and departs from Cortes Island at 3:50 PM.
All vessel operations on the route between Quadra Island and Campbell River have been canceled. The other ferry will operate in shuttle mode until further notice.
This storm comes days after a previous storm that caused some BC Ferries sailings to be cancelled.
