The country of Siksika declared a regional state of emergency on Saturday morning due to the extreme cold.
The Siksika Nation Tribal Administration said in a Facebook post around 9:21 a.m. that ATCO had notified the public that regulators were out of commission and some homes in the area were without power. Ta.
At 11:11 a.m., a local state of emergency was declared.
By Saturday afternoon, heating had been restored to some homes in the area, but the local state of emergency had not been lifted.
ATCO said in a social media post on X (formerly known as Twitter) that it is aware of the power outage in the Siksika Nation and that gas service has been restored.
That’s because temperatures in Calgary and surrounding areas on Saturday were expected to range between -28C and -33C, according to Environment and Climate Change Canada.

Siksika Nation members who do not have heat in their homes are being directed to the Siksika Deerfoot Sportsplex. If you need transportation to get to the Sportsplex, please call 403-734-3815.
Seniors and families with children were asked to call Tom Many Heads at 403-361-1527 to arrange hotel accommodations.
The Siksika National and Tribal Administration announced that the local state of emergency will continue for several days until the situation is resolved.
