The turmoil of the Completionist charity scandal has taken on a new dimension. YouTuber The Completionist, Gilad Khalil, has been accused Mutahar and Karl Jobst, fellow YouTubers, praised Open Hands for donating $600,000 to the charity over the years, without actually donating any money.
Mr. Khalil responded that he had no malicious intent and that he still had all of the funds that would actually be donated after “searching for an appropriate foundation to send the money to.” At one point, Mr. Khalil appeared to threaten legal action against his accusers.
This whole saga continues today, with Mutahar and Jobst still asserting their claims. But despite Khalil’s denials, things don’t seem to be surprising, so he faces further trouble. Namely his cameo in Sea of Stars, one of the best indie games of the year, and Khalil’s work. Personal Game of the Year will be patched. Below is a statement from the developer. The developer has had a close and successful relationship with The Completionist.
“A small patch has been published on Steam to replace the Builder NPC in Mirth and will be submitted to consoles soon. We have reached this decision after closely monitoring events over the past few weeks. While it is not our place to pass judgment, our priority is to maintain a positive and optimistic space that reflects the spirit of our intentions, whether creative or otherwise. Isn’t that so?”
They are not “passing judgment,” but they are sort of “passing judgment” because they believe there is enough evidence to make their relationship with “The Completionist” negative. ”.
This is somewhat reminiscent of when Call of Duty removed skins from streamer NickMercs for sale after he made anti-LGBTQ remarks. His friend Timza Tatman also called for his skin to be removed in solidarity.
The question arises whether it’s a good idea to continue partnering with streamers and YouTubers until you actually incorporate them into your game. While the majority may not involve scandal, fans of The Completionist are pretty shocked by these accusations, so these things can come from anywhere.
For now, they remain charged. Both sides appear to have solidified their positions, but it is unclear what the final outcome will be. But on Mr. Khalil’s side, the tide of public opinion appears to be turning heavily against him at the moment. Perhaps more evidence will come to light, but for now, Khalil continues to suffer embarrassing fallout, including being removed from his own GOTY.
