Russian air defense forces intercepted Ukrainian drones over four areas of Ukrainian territory, including Moscow, the day after the Kiev attack.
Just one day after Kiev reported the “largest drone attack” on Ukraine since the invasion of Moscow last February, Russian air defenses have attacked Ukrainian drones in multiple areas of their territory, including Moscow. I intercepted it.
“Four Ukrainian drones were destroyed by air defense forces over the territory of the Bryansk, Smolensk and Tula regions,” the Russian Defense Ministry said in a statement on Sunday. Earlier, Russia announced that several drones had been shot down over the Moscow region.
The Russian military also announced that it shot down two Ukrainian missiles heading towards Russia in the Azov Sea between the two countries.
Meanwhile, Ukraine announced on Sunday that its air defense forces had shot down eight of nine drones over the country.
Ukraine announced on Saturday that Moscow had launched 75 drones into the country, mainly targeting the capital.
The attack comes as Kiev marks the Holodomor, a Soviet-orchestrated famine tragedy that killed millions of Ukrainians during the Stalin era.
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskiy called the attack a “deliberate act of terrorism” and said: “The Russian leadership is proud of the fact that it can kill people.”
Ukraine has been attacking Crimea, which it annexed with Russia, for months with drones and launched a counterattack this summer to push back Russian forces.
After the 2014 uprising toppled the pro-Moscow government of President Viktor Yanukovych, Russia annexed Crimea and supported separatists in eastern Ukraine.
