As announced in a statement released by Boeing earlier today, Boeing confirmed that it has sold four mid-sized 787-9 aircraft to Royal Brunei Airlines. While the airline is familiar with its smaller 787-8, this is the first time it has ordered a 787-9 model, and CEO Sabirin bin Haji Abdul Hamid said: It is stated as follows.

This order represents the latest milestone in the strong partnership between Boeing and airlines. This was demonstrated by the fact that Royal Brunei made its first delivery of his 787 exactly 10 years before his, and was the first airline in Southeast Asia to operate his 787.

According to data from SeatGuru, Royal Brunei’s existing Boeing 787-8 aircraft has a two-class configuration, accommodating 18 business class passengers and 236 economy class passengers. Boeing notes that the larger 787-9 aircraft will have about 20% more passenger capacity, meaning in Royal Brunei’s case it would likely have about 300 seats. The range of this type reaches 14,010 km (7,565 NM).
Not the only Asian airline to order the 787
Elsewhere at the Singapore Airshow, fellow Asian airline Thai Airways International is also making headlines with its order for 45 Boeing 787-9 Dreamliners. The deal was officially completed in December 2023, but the airline was previously marked as an unidentified customer in Boeing’s data.
