The Edmonton Oilers easily won 6 goals to 1 against the listless Pittsburgh Penguins.

Connor McDavid, 8 years old. 1 goal, 1 assist. Dangerous all night. He penetrated hard early and took a dangerous shot, then penetrated again late in the first half on a 2-on-1 to set up Hyman’s rebound goal. He tucked a dry rebound home in the third. His heroics weren’t needed during the tense period, and he only played 17 minutes and 18 seconds. Grade A Shot Contribution (GAS): Even Strength +4/-2; Special Teams +1/-0.

Leon Draisaitl, 8 years old. He came out in front, moving his feet. 3 assists. He and McD combined well early on and had some solid shots, including Dry winning a board battle and a stretch pass to start a virtuous cycle with Edmonton’s first goal. He then won a faceoff and made a smooth pass for Hyman’s second goal. He beat him at the blue line, ripped off the slot and watched McDo knock in the rebound on third. Gas: ES +5/-1; ST+1/-0.
Zach Hyman, 8 years old. 2 goals. He has become a believer in GTTFN (Go to the Flaking Net) and was the first to score the first goal of the game (his 41st of the year). Edmonton’s third GTTFN goal came on a dry pass into the net for the second goal. Gas: ES +2/-0; ST+1/-0.
Ryan Nugent-Hopkins, 5 years old. There are several mistakes in this. 5 alarm slotter ejection failed early in the first. He turned the puck over, leading to a Jansen Harkins penalty shot. He lost the faceoff in the Pittsburgh goal. Gas: ES +1/-3; ST+1/-2.
Evander Kane, 8 years old. One assist. He was moving with his feet and looked sharp in this game. He won the board battle, threw the ball in front of RNH on his first five alarm of the game, and got his own slotter on a low-high pass from RNH. He crushed Harkins with blows. He did all sorts of good work, winning battles and making plays that led to McLeod’s goals. He attacked hard for a breakaway shot early in the third set. Gas: ES +4/-0; ST+0/-0.

Matthias Janmark, 6 years old. At the end of the third inning, he finally got a break with a good shot of his own. Gas: ES +1/-1; ST+0/-0.
Warren Vogel, 7 years old. Two assists. His stretch pass led to Edmonton’s second goal. His turnover led to a Pittsburgh rush, making it Grade A for the second time. He charged for Edmonton’s fifth goal, setting up Ceci with a low-to-high pass. Gas: ES +0/-0; ST+0/-0.
Ryan McLeod, 8 years old. He was flying the whole game. 1 goal, 1 assist. He rushed the puck onto the ice and set up Perry’s goal early in the second period. He sent Gagner and Nurse into a dangerous rush in the second. Great pass that earned Jean-Marc a grade A. Then he pushed the Pittsburgh goaltender’s mask from an off-angle, scoring an own goal. Corey Perry, 7 years old. There is only one goal. Edmonton’s second goal was another great example of GTTFN, as Perry didn’t miss McLeod’s pass. Gas: ES +1/-0; ST+0/-0.
Sam Gagner, 8 years old. His best game since returning from injury. He hit two Grade A shots in the first one, one was a jam and the other was a bad chip. In the second one, he hit the post on a 2-on-1 rush. Gas: ES +4/-0; ST+0/-0.
Dylan Holloway, 6 years old. He was active from the beginning and made many solid plays. His third almost scored on a rebound shot. Gas: ES +2/-0; ST+0/-0.

Connor Brown, 5 years old. There was a lot of scoring and scoring for Edmonton, but unfortunately it wasn’t by good old Connor Brown. Gas: ES +0/-0; ST+0/-1.

Vincent Descharnais, 6 years old. Although part of a strong defensive effort, Pittsburgh’s offense lacked bite. Gas: ES +0/-0; ST+0/-0.
Kodi Ceci, 7 years old. Best game in a while. There is only one goal. He took a mean shot and sailed it past a double screen for Edmonton’s fifth goal. Gas: ES +2/-3; ST+0/-0.
Brett Clack, 8 years old. Two assists. His brilliant skating makes him a valuable player for the Oilers, and he showed it in this game. His hard pinch was part of a virtuous cycle that led to Edmonton’s fifth goal. Gas: ES +4/-2; ST+0/-0.
Calvin Picard, 7 years old. He didn’t take many tests, but passed almost all of them. He started the game with some solid penalty saves and then stopped Crosby’s five-point shot early in the second. He stopped Malkin’s slotter late in the second game and gave Harkins nothing on the penalty shot when Edmonton led by three points. There are very few chances in the Pittsburgh goal.
