Jake Oettinger will be sidelined week-to-week for the Dallas Stars due to a lower-body injury.
The goalie was injured Friday during the first period of the Stars’ 5-4 win over the Ottawa Senators. He showed discomfort after extending his right pad in an attempt to stop a shot attempt, so he was helped off the ice and headed to the locker room at 8:03.
“We’ve done all the relevant testing and everything is done, so that’s good news,” Stars manager Peter DeBoer said Monday. “Obviously there’s something there, but nothing long-term. On a scale of bad news to good news, it’s either really close to good news or very far away. So I would put him in the short-term I would call it a thing. It’s probably still week to week, but there’s good news on that front.”
Oettinger played in 21 games this season, posting an 11-7-2 record with a 2.93 goals-against average, .901 save percentage and one shutout.
Scott Wedgewood, who replaced Oettinger against the Senators, made 35 saves in Monday’s 4-3 overtime win over the Seattle Kraken. He has appeared in 10 games this season, posting a 7-1-2 record, 3.21 GAA, and .906 save percentage.
The Stars (18-8-4) called up Texas goaltender Matt Murray to the American Hockey League on Monday. The 25-year-old is 8-4-1 with a 2.86 GAA and .908 save percentage with one shutout in 13 AHL games this season. He played in three NHL games with the Stars last season.
“He’s earned the right to be the starting goalie this year,” DeBoer said. “It wasn’t just handed to him, and I think that’s important to him.” [general manager] Gym [Nill] and organization. And let’s take a look. I haven’t written any starting points or anything yet. We just take it game by game. We have the luxury of not having back-to-back performances for the foreseeable future and during the Christmas holidays (December 24th to 26th), so we’d like to see how “Wedge” goes as we move forward. ”
