A Norwegian cruise ship is left without power in the North Sea after rough seas and hurricane-force winds shattered the windows on its bridge, Danish authorities said.
A spokesperson for the Danish Joint Rescue Coordination Center (DJRC) told Reuters that all 266 passengers and 131 crew members on board the MS Mode were safe.
They added that two tow vessels from a private rescue company were helping maintain stability.
“They just need to ride out the storm calmly and they are doing that by sailing upwind,” the spokesperson said.
container It was due to depart from Flourow, Norway, on Thursday and arrive in Tilbury, England, on Friday.
While the ship was sailing 120 miles (200 km) off the west coast of Denmark and 205 miles (330 km) off the east coast of England, water entered the bridge and caused a power outage.
The main engines were still functional and the ship could be operated manually from the engine room.
According to Friday data from maritime traffic website Vesselfinder.com, MS Mode has seen little movement since Thursday night.
The ship belongs to cruise company HX, and on Thursday the company said it experienced a “temporary power outage” and that the crew and passengers were safe.
It was not clear where the ship would go next.
