- TUI Fly Belgium and Porter have added new Embraer E195-E2 long-haul routes.
- However, the area from Lagos to Johannesburg remains number one in the world. It competes directly with the Airbus A340-300.
- Porter will operate five of the top seven services this winter.
The world has acquired three new Embraer E195-E2 routes. Starting this winter, all distances will exceed his 2,000 miles (3,219 km) and rank in the top seven.
Over 2,000 miles, over 5 hours
The seven longest routes are summarized in the table below. Canada’s Porter announced on October 3 that it will begin service to the U.S. West Coast from Toronto Pearson, with daily flights to San Francisco and Los Angeles starting in January using its 132-seat E2 aircraft.

These come shortly after leisure airline TUI Fly Belgium added Antwerp to Tel Aviv with its 136-seat E2 fleet. Antwerp, famous for diamonds, is Belgium’s second most populous city. The airport’s runway is very short (4,954 feet, 1,510 meters), so TUI only uses the E2 there.

Air Peace to Johannesburg
Air Peace’s flight from Lagos to Johannesburg falls just short of what I would consider long-haul at 3,000 miles (4,828 km). Simply put, this route covers about 10% less distance than London Heathrow – Lagos and about the same distance as New York JFK – Quito.
staring at Flight Currently, Air Peace’s maximum flight time was 6 hours and 5 minutes to South Africa and 6 hours and 6 minutes on the return, according to Flightradar24 data analysis since early September. Both were only slightly shorter than the maximum block time.

The airport pair is close to the E2’s maximum range. According to Embraer, the limit is 2,992 miles (4,815 km) when fully loaded with passengers in a single-class configuration. I tried converting the distance to nautical miles.
However, this is a theoretical range or brochure range where everything is optimized. In real-world situations, the range will be even shorter, depending on the airline’s aircraft configuration, the total weight of the particular flight, wind, exact route, airport altitude and temperature, etc. For Air Peace, excess baggage to and from Nigeria is common. must also be considered.

Payload limited
Air Peace’s E2 only has 124 seats instead of the maximum 146 seats in a single class configuration. Therefore, they will be much lighter, consume less fuel, and have more range.

Nevertheless, payload limitations are inevitable, especially towards Nigeria. Because the airport is located at a relatively high altitude and is hot in the summer, the longer distance is unavoidable even if takeoff performance from Johannesburg is degraded. This means fewer passengers to break even, so higher fares must be charged. In fact, Air Peace tickets are unlikely to sell out.
