Google Pixel 8a is coming soon and is expected to be released at the Google I/O event on May 14th. Now, a new leak has emerged that claims to show the mid-range phone in more detail than before.
The leak comes in the form of a post to X. tech droider and what was discovered was 9to5Google. This isn’t the first time we’ve seen this phone, in fact, Google even featured an image of the phone in an ad for Google Fi Wireless, which has since been removed.
Among the tweaks, we noticed that the corners are more rounded than the Pixel 8 and Pixel 8 Pro. Google’s usual policy is to release A-series phones around this time, with some of the same technology and almost all of the design language intact, as phones that are more affordable than flagships. Often the only major difference is size.
However, the rounded edges show a more noticeable design tweak here. The new image shows the phone from the back, with a black matte finish.
We also have images of the front of the Pixel 8a, and for example, the bezels are noticeably wider than the Pixel 8, but perhaps similar to last year’s Pixel 7a.
What hasn’t changed is the raised camera bar that stretches across the back of the handset, with two cameras on one side and a flash on the other.
Last year’s Pixel 7a had a glossy finish. The back of the Pixel 8a is thought to be plastic rather than glass like the Pixel 8 and Pixel 8 Pro. These design changes help keep prices down, allowing Google to pack its newest processor, the Tensor G3, into cheaper consoles.
However, if you’re looking for a smartphone as low as the Pixel 7a ($499), there are also reports that the price could be even higher, perhaps as low as $549. This isn’t entirely surprising considering that the Pixel 8 and Pixel 8 Pro are both significantly more expensive than the Pixel 7 and Pixel 7 Pro.
One of the reasons for the higher price could be the display, which is reported to have a 120Hz refresh rate.
The Pixel 8a will be announced in about five weeks. In the meantime, check again for further leaks.
