“Yes, I love you. I’m going home. That’s it.”
When asked further questions, he joked: “You’re going to make me cry.
“It’s a very, very special time for both of us. I really can’t describe what it means to win this tournament again. I really can’t express what it’s like to be the father of a son. I can’t describe it in words.”For the first time.
“So I’m looking forward to getting home and celebrating with Meredith, it’s been a long week here without her.
“But I’m looking forward to going home.”
Scheffler didn’t look nervous at all as he set out on his way to victory, showing in the process why he’s the world number one.
But the American admitted he had to force himself to maintain composure as he approached glory.
“I tried my best to stay calm outside,” he admitted. “I tried to be patient on the course and was able to make some important shots and some important putts today.
“Ludwig [Aberg] I played great today, he made some good moves on me on the back nine and I was lucky enough to hold him off there until the end. ”
Sky Sports pundits were full of praise for Scheffler, with Butch Harmon praising the 27-year-old on Friday for staying with the team despite some issues.
“He was very impressive. Everything he did this year was impressive,” he said.
“People forget how good he was in that wind on Friday, but he could have been out of the competition.
“There’s a reason he’s number one in the world, a reason he won the Masters twice, a reason he’s the man!”
He continued: “He is a wonderful human being and the kind of person we all aspire to be.
