When it debuted in 2022, Magic Eraser was one of the most talked about features in the Google Pixel smartphone lineup. The option to use the power of AI to remove unwanted objects in photos quickly spread to other manufacturers, including Samsung’s “Object Eraser” version.
And now Windows is getting its own version.

The Photos app for Windows PC already has a feature called Spot Fix that lets users remove blemishes from images, but the tool now has an AI boost and a new name: Generative Erase.
Similar to Magic Erase, Generative Erase allows users to correct and remove distractions from photos, including background objects and other visual clutter, according to Microsoft. According to the company, compared to spot fixing, the upgraded version should create more realistic results after objects are erased, even when erasing large areas.
To start using Generative Erase, go to the image’s edit button and select the erase option. Once that’s done, choose your brush size and move it over the object you want to remove.

This feature is currently only available to Windows 11 Insiders, but will eventually be available to all Windows 11 users and even Windows 10 users. And for the first time, users of older versions will also have access to his other AI editing features, such as background removal and replacement and background blur, according to Microsoft.
It was only last September that Microsoft introduced other Google-like features to its Photos app. This includes the ability to search photo content and support for viewing video photos more easily. Sure, most people just use the default photo storage app that comes with their phones, but if you want a little more organization or better backup options, Windows Photos is certainly more appealing.
