Rocksteady on Tuesday start up “Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League” is the first major game since 2015’s “Arkham Knight.” But if you’re wondering where the game’s press and creator reviews will be posted in the days before then, you’re not alone.
This isn’t a situation where everyone plays and then just waits for the embargo from the day before. that Not normal. But instead, no one seems to have an actual copy of Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League at this point.
I’ve been waiting for an update from the communications team for about two weeks, and there was supposed to be an official announcement yesterday, but it never happened. However, when I asked around, I was told that since this is an always-online co-op game, the actual release date, the servers just won’t turn on until Tuesday the 30th. So no servers means the press can’t review the game ahead of that point.
I think that’s an explanation. But then again, this is very strange for Rocksteady’s first huge game in nine years, a very important title, and last year to still actually allow for an early playthrough. , I feel like something was made up. Game for review.Even if this teeth The live game with more content will start a month after launch and will obviously start a big campaign that can be reviewed.
Sometimes that is not communicated at all. If the decision was made not to distribute early because the servers would not be up and running, it seems strange that people were not told about it in advance and were able to plan accordingly. Well, it’s too late anyway. I was able to get the code this morning, but due to Monday’s embargo, I don’t have time to play the big game thoroughly in two days. And, again, it looks like the press won’t even be able to play it until launch anyway. At this rate, I think I’ll have to buy the initial version myself.
It’s not totally inconceivable that the WB is worried about receiving the match and the code just isn’t coming out. This comes after a technically marred preview event in which many major media outlets got their hands on the game for at least a few hours, with mixed results overall. This led to the emergency release of Alpha NDA, which received more positive feedback from players. But the idea might be that if the press didn’t like the previews, WB would choose to do a day one launch with no reviews rather than a potentially poor review. I can’t prove that, but given what happened in the previews, who knows?
Even if it was a server issue, this is not being handled well. It’s highly unusual for a game to have a $100 “early access” launch with zero reviews. It’s even stranger that this is happening with his Rocksteady, a beloved studio, and its first major new game in nine years.
So in my case, my coverage will probably just be playing the game and providing commentary starting on Tuesday. And this ends up ending what I would say is one of the worst pre-launch marketing campaigns I’ve ever seen for a major video game, regardless of the final quality.
