The exhibition will be accompanied by a fully illustrated hardcover book featuring the artist’s life story and legend. Dempsey Bob: In his own voice.
“We are thrilled to be one of only five cities across Canada to host this historic exhibition. This presentation brings a lifetime of anticipation to a major retrospective of his career. “This is a huge win for Dempsey Bob, and we are confident Okanagan audiences will not be disappointed,” said Kelowna Art Museum Executive Director Natalie Nagy.
Attendees will have the opportunity to view Bob’s collection of masks, wall carvings, vessels, and regalia, assembled for the first time from the walls of private collectors and the archives of public museums.
“I’m happy to be surrounded by my own work again. These are friends. I’ve spent hundreds of hours with each of them and found faces in the woods, many of them for decades. We hadn’t met. It’s powerful when you put them all together,” Bob said.
The exhibition will be on view at the Kelowna Art Museum from October 14th to February 17th, 2024.
Dempsey Bob and his family will be on site this Saturday at 1 p.m. to say hello.
