Jonathan Majors, the American actor known for his role as Kang in the Marvel films, has been sued by his ex-girlfriend.
British choreographer Grace Jabari filed a civil lawsuit in New York federal court on Tuesday.
She alleges she was the victim of assault, battery, intentional infliction of emotional distress, malicious prosecution and defamation.
This comes three months after a jury convicted Major and others of assaulting and harassing Jabari.
When he is sentenced in April, he could be sentenced to up to a year in prison.
Court documents filed Tuesday contain further allegations, alleging that Ms. Jabari was subjected to an “extensive pattern of domestic abuse” by Majors that began in 2021 and continued into 2023.
The documents also detail several alleged acts of violence, as well as “verbal assaults and horrific outbursts.”
The lawsuit also alleges that Major assaulted Jabari in September 2022, causing “severe bodily injuries.”
“Shortly thereafter, Grace attempted to seek help from Jonathan and disclosed the physical abuse to members of Jonathan’s management team. Majors was furious when he learned that Grace had exposed Jonathan as an abuser.” said.
Priya Chowdhury, a lawyer representing Mr. Majors, said the lawsuit was “not surprising” and that Majors was “preparing a counterclaim against Mr. Jabari.”
In a statement, Jabari’s attorney, Brittany Henderson, praised Jabari, saying, “It takes true courage to hold someone with this level of power accountable and be praised.”
After Majors was convicted in December, a Marvel spokesperson said the studio would no longer work with the actor.
In an interview in January, he said he was “shocked” by the jury’s verdict.
“Based on the evidence, based on the prosecution’s evidence, much less on our evidence, how is that possible?” he told ABC News.
Majors played the villain Kang the Conqueror in Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania and the Disney+ series Loki, and was set to star in the upcoming Avengers: The Kern Dynasty. .
