Despite talk of retirement, Jim Carrey is officially set to return to film at least one more time, as he reprises his role as Doctor Robotnik in Sonic the Hedgehog 3.
According to reports variety, Fans are also very happy about this exciting news, as it comes just after the movie’s logo was revealed and appears to be an homage to Sonic Adventure 2. This homage is perfect as Shadow the Hedgehog, who was teased in Sonic the Hedgehog. 2’s post-credits scene was the game’s cover star alongside Sonic.

As for Carrey, he said in April 2022 that he was seriously considering retiring after Sonic the Hedgehog 2, unless something really great happened.
“Well, I’m retiring,” said Carrie. “Yes, I guess. I’m being quite serious. It depends. If the angels had a script written in gold ink… If you bring it to me and say it’s really going to retire.” It’s important for people to see it, so I might continue down the road, but I’m going to take a little break. ”
Sonic series producers Neal Moritz and Toby Asher have stated that they have no intention of replacing Doctor Robotnik if Carrie retires, so Carrie and Sonic fans may not be interested in him. It’s good to be back.
As for Sonic the Hedgehog 3 itself, the movie is scheduled to hit theaters on December 20, 2024. There’s still a lot we don’t know about the movie, but these two revelations certainly help.
In our review of Sonic the Hedgehog 2, we wrote, “While Sonic the Hedgehog 2 improves on its predecessor in many ways, it falls short in several others. It feels like we’re in tune with the game, and fans of the game should be.” “It’s a good time seeing your favorite characters lovingly recreated on the big screen. Sonic, Tails, and Knuckles are a lot of fun, and Jim Carrey’s brilliantly over-the-top reprisal of Dr. Robotnik The same is true.”
