New Delhi:
Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni has announced that she is separating from her partner Andrea Giambruno after 10 years of dating. TV journalist Giambruno has come under fire in recent weeks for his sexist comments.
Giam Bruno is a news program host presented by Mediaset. Video excerpts from his recent show aired off-air show him using profane language, groping his crotch and making advances on a female co-worker. “Why haven’t we met before?” he asks her.
In another recording, a man can be heard telling a female colleague that she can work for him if she participates in group sex.
“Did you know that (name redacted) is having an affair with me? Everyone at Mediaset knows it, and now you know it too,” said the woman, also off-camera. he said.
“But we’re doing threesomes, so we’re looking for a third person. Foursomes as well. Would you like to be part of our working group?” he added.
Meloni told reporters last month that Giambruno should not be judged for his comments and that he would no longer answer questions about Giambruno’s actions.
Meloni and Giambruno met at a television studio in 2014 and have a 7-year-old daughter.
The split comes as the 46-year-old prime minister celebrates his first year in office as head of a right-wing coalition government that has championed the traditional family as one of its policy hallmarks.
Meloni wrote on his social media accounts: “My relationship with Andrea Giambruno, which lasted almost 10 years, is now ending.”
“Our paths have diverged for some time and it’s time to admit it,” she added.
She also thanked Giambruno for “the wonderful years we spent together, the hardships we went through, and for giving me the most important thing in my life, my daughter Ginebra.” did.
