This week’s Apple Loop looks back at another week of news and headlines from Cupertino, including the latest iPhone 16 leaks, iPhone 15 Pro issues, released iOS bug fixes, MacBook Pro mysteries, and Apple’s amazing USB Cable, Apple included. That leaves your expensive Apple Watch on the search engine.
Apple Loop is here to remind you of some of the many, many conversations that have taken place around Apple over the past seven days (and you can read my weekly Android news digest here at Forbes ).
iPhone 16 details leaked
Considering that it takes a long time to design and develop a new smartphone, it’s no surprise that Apple is hard at work on the iPhone 16 family. It may still be early days, but extensive physical details of the phone have been leaked.
“According to current information, the iPhone 16 and 16 Plus will maintain the same dimensions as the current iPhone 15 and iPhone 15 Plus, the only difference being that both models will weigh approximately 2 grams more (173g for the iPhone 16). 203g for iPhone 16 Plus. iPhone 16 and iPhone 16 Plus are available in the same 6.1-inch and 6.7-inch display sizes as their predecessors.”

Apple admits iPhone 15 overheating issue
After the launch of iPhone 15 and iPhone 15 Pro, many users encountered their devices getting hot. Apple acknowledged the issue earlier this week, citing higher-than-expected power consumption by third-party apps as the reason. David Phelan reports with Apple’s statement:
“We have also discovered a bug in iOS 17 that affects some users and will be fixed in a software update. Another issue includes overloading the system due to recent updates to third-party apps.” We are working with these app developers to deploy a fix.”

Important iOS bug fixes released
To address this issue, Apple released a point update for iOS. This is not a feature update. It does not support security or upgrades. It’s here to deal with the overheating issue.
“This is a small update with a very big purpose. You’ve probably heard that some iPhone 15 series phones are overheating. Not all phones, not all the time. But , has enough phones and more than enough heat to grab the attention of early adopters. ”

The mystery of MacBook Pro
Will Apple update its professional 14-inch and 16-inch MacBook Pro laptops by the end of the year? A new report from supply chain watcher Digitimes suggests so, but just because the parts are in the chain , does not mean a release is imminent.
“These claims aren’t out of the question, but DigiTimes’ latest supply chain report has good reason to doubt the launch date. Apple plans to launch 14-inch and 16-inch MacBook Pros in January with M2 Pro and M2 Max chips. Updated with. Most rumors suggest that refreshed models will arrive next year… The next versions of these two machines are expected to be powered by M3 Pro and M3 Max chips, and at the latest. It will “probably” be available by mid-2024. ”
Do you want something new and connected?
Apple is launching a new product this week that many people will find useful. The USB-A to USB-C cable is now available at the Apple Store for the first time.
According to the product page, this USB-C to USB-A cable is USB-IF certified and compatible with any USB-C enabled Mac, iPad, or iPhone. Presumably, that means this USB-A to USB-C cable will work with CarPlay. This is probably the most common reason iPhone 15 owners buy a USB-A to USB-C cable. Although USB-C is becoming more common in newer cars, USB-A is the only CarPlay connectivity option in many cars. ”

Apple Search, “Yes” or “No”?
Will Apple launch its own search engine? If all the pieces are in place, traditionally, launching a search engine is a matter of when, not if. It will be said. All of the search engine engine parts are hidden throughout Apple’s portfolio. That doesn’t mean Apple is ready to shut down his Google Search revenue stream. But when the time comes to renegotiate, it would be great to show that you can do it.
“But the best evidence of Apple’s search efforts can be seen in Spotlight, which helps users find things across their devices. Several versions of iOS and macOS ago, Apple We started adding web search results, directing users to possible sites: “Answer their questions.” At various points, those results were linked to Microsoft Corp.’s Bing or Alphabet Inc. Siri also uses that technology to deliver web results.”

And finally…
Many Apple Watches have reached the end of their lifespan, at least from an Apple support and repair perspective, with the original wearable now reaching “obsolete” status. That includes the status-defining $17,000 18-karat gold Apple Watch.
“According to an internal memo obtained by MacRumors, all first-generation Apple Watch models released in 2015 were added to Apple’s obsolete product list on September 30th. As a result, these older “series” 0” watches are no longer eligible for repairs. Service available at Apple Stores and Apple Authorized Service Provider locations. ”
