Hannah Waddingham had the right words for a photographer in response to comments made about her on the red carpet at Sunday night’s Olivier Awards.
As seen in a video posted by X user @odeiotedlasso, Waddingham was posing for photos on the red carpet when she stopped to speak to the photographer. It’s unclear what the photographer said, but Waddingham replied: Don’t make fun of me or I’ll leave. Don’t say, “Show me your legs.” no. ”
The crowd then cheered as Waddingham walked away in a lilac dress. The “Ted Lasso” star is no stranger to standing up for himself, and recently shared the story of when he decided to no longer take on small roles in movies and television.
“So I said to my agents at the time, ‘I’m not going to do it again…I’m not going to do one scene anymore. They shouldn’t put me on the shelf because it’s insulting,'” Waddingham said on Michelle Visage’s podcast. He said this on “Rule Breakers.” “I’ve been a leading actress for 22 years. I’m not doing that anymore. I’d rather be in a world where I’m appreciated.”
Waddingham attended the Olivier Awards, which celebrates the best in British theatre, and opened the show with a performance of “Anything Goes.” The night’s biggest winner was “Sunset Boulevard,” which won seven awards, including Best Actor in a Musical for Tom Francis and Best Actress in a Musical for Nicole Scherzinger. Other awards for the show included the Sir Peter Hall Award for director Jamie Lloyd, Best Musical Revival, Lighting Design, Outstanding Musical Contribution and Sound Design.
Sarah Snook won best actress in a play for her one-woman film adaptation of The Picture of Dorian Gray, and Mark Gatiss won best actor for Motive and Clue. “Operation Mincemeat” won the award for Best New Musical.
