Google this week announced a new version of its Titan security key that adds passkey support.
Titan Security Key is a phishing-resistant two-factor authentication device that works with a growing number of applications.
Google has now launched new USB-A and USB-C models that offer NFC functionality. These will replace the current model.
When it comes to passkeys, which aim to eliminate the use of passwords, the new Titan Security Key allows users to store over 250 unique passkeys.
Google is on a mission to replace passwords with passkeys, and recently added support to all Google Accounts.
Passkey leverages FIDO2 credentials and encryption to allow users to easily and securely log into their accounts.
“While we are excited about the potential of Passkey, we also know that there is no security silver bullet for everyone. For those who need a solution that does not rely on smartphones or for devices that do not support Passkey We all have different approaches to security, but we all share one goal: thwart attacks. That’s why we’re proud to introduce the latest Titan Security Key to passkey safety on portable hardware. “We intentionally designed it to encompass the most advanced encryption,” Google said.
The internet giant has pledged to distribute 100,000 free security keys to high-risk users around the world in 2024.
