Housing Minister Sean Fraser said the federal government would roll out more than 60 housing deals with small rural communities across the country in the coming weeks.
Minister says deal will spur construction of 50,000 homes over next 10 years
Housing Minister Sean Fraser said the federal government would roll out more than 60 housing deals with small rural communities across the country in the coming weeks.
Premier Fraser told a press conference this morning that the deal is worth $176 million and will help build more than 50,000 homes over the next 10 years.
The City of Ottawa has direct agreements with municipalities through the Housing Accelerator Fund, which provides funding in exchange for changes to bylaws and regulations to support the construction of more housing.
The Liberal government is touting the fund as a key pillar of its economic plan as it faces political pressure to address the country’s housing crisis.
Fraser said that in addition to agreements for small communities, the federal government has so far reached 36 agreements to help build more than 500,000 homes over the next 10 years.
This includes an agreement with the City of Ottawa announced Monday worth $176 million.
