the boys in the boat Directed by George Clooney, the film is based on the best-selling nonfiction book, The Boys in the Boat: Nine Americans and their Epic Quest for Gold at the 1936 Berlin Olympics, by Daniel James Brown. I have nothing but praise for the cast of the new movie.

Like the book, Clooney’s film tells the story of the 1936 University of Washington rowing team that competed in the Berlin Summer Olympics.
Set during the Great Depression, Joe Lantz, played by Callum Turner, can barely afford to attend school, so joining the rowing team means he has a place to live, money, and the ability to remain a student. It means an opportunity to gain.
He does meet Al Ulbrickson, a very serious coach who is a member of the team and played by Joel Edgerton, but he shows little joy in his job.
“When I first talked to George, I just loved it. [Clooney] and [producer Grant Heslov] “When I learned about the script and read the script, he was described as one of the coaches we know well who doesn’t seem to take any joy in his work,” he said at a press conference prior to the film’s release. Edgerton said. “I always look at these coaches and wonder why they do this. You’re teaching them the road to the grave early on.”
“I realized that behind such anger, abuse, and red-faced faces are often men who care too much. And it reminds me of the relationship between a father and son. . Coaches are like fathers to me. “In my famous failed sports endeavors, there were a lot of coaches and they were just like tough dads and I really wanted to please them.” So I was really excited to play the coach and I was excited to not have to go through what Callum went through.”
George Clooney compares Joel Edgerton and Danny DeVito in ‘Taxi’
However, Edgerton did a little rowing himself while filming the movie. the boys in the boatAnd Clooney was full of praise for the coach played by Edgerton.
“Joel is a strong-willed actor…and it takes a lot of nerve to show that ‘I really care’ without trying to gloss over it or over-express it,” Clooney said. said. “Like Danny DeVito taxi, He played the asshole, he didn’t fake it, he didn’t suddenly become nice. ”
“It’s not that you were an asshole, but it wasn’t like you were always saying, ‘Don’t worry, I’m a really good person.’ … They slowly bring us into the picture, but as actors It takes a lot of nerve. The studio would call after every day and say, “Why is he so angry? Why is he so grumpy?” I was like, relax, we’ll be there soon. ”
“Right now, our country is in a very polarized era.”
the boys in the boat The director emphasized that the concept of people working together and supporting each other is a particularly timely message from his film.
“We showed this movie and…people are screaming, people are standing up in their chairs, cheering, and you can feel that this is a very polarized time in our country, and maybe “I haven’t seen it since the community center. Was there ever such anger in war?” Clooney said. “It feels like it’s always happened, but that’s partly because we watch it on TV and partly because we lose perspective.”
“This is still a fringe. Most people in our country and around the world want to get along. Most people want to live normal lives, raise children, and hope that life goes well. They want that for their lives.” So that’s how we felt watching this movie: This movie is about us all being in this together and maybe the only thing we’ll get through.” It’s also a movie that talks about the idea that “Intact is about being with each other and supporting each other. The better the other person is, the better you are. I liked that theme of this movie.”
