BC Ferries said its staff is working to resolve the issue and will contact anyone who had reservations for the canceled sailings.
Asked about the issue on Monday, Premier David Eby said the province is asking BC Ferries to be more reliable and meet demand following the COVID-19 pandemic.
Eby said the province will continue to support the organization as it puts “structures” in place to ensure the ferry runs on time and smoothly.
For months, complaints have been mounting at BC Ferries due to crew shortages and mechanical issues leading to cancellations.
During the May long weekend, BC Ferries’ data center went down, causing additional website and app crashes. The long weekend in July also presented challenges, as issues with Coastal Celebration meant the airline had to reallocate more than 6,600 reservations and operate eight fewer six-day flights on key routes.
When Coastal Celebration returned to sea, the sailing was canceled again, but further mechanical problems were identified. That same month, BC Ferries’ website incorrectly displayed wait times and 12-hour delays for nine flights, causing public confusion.
