BC Ferries warned Saturday that ferries between Vancouver Island and the Lower Mainland may be cancelled.
As of Saturday morning, four flights between Victoria and Vancouver and four flights between Nanaimo and Vancouver were canceled.
The cancellation comes after Environment Canada issued a wind warning for Greater Victoria and the southern Gulf Islands, with winds of 70 to 90 km/h expected in the afternoon.
As of 10:45 a.m., the following four flights between Swartz Bay and Tsawwassen are canceled:
- 11am departure from Swartz Bay (Victoria)
- 1pm departure from Tsawwassen (Vancouver)
- 11am departure from Tsawwassen (Vancouver)
- 1pm departure from Swartz Bay, Victoria
Meanwhile, the following four flights between Duke Point and Tsawwassen were canceled on Saturday.
- 10:15am Depart Duke Point (Nanaimo)
- 12:45pm departure from Tsawwassen (Vancouver)
- 10:15am departure from Tsawwassen (Vancouver)
- Depart Duke Point (Nanaimo) at 12:45 p.m.
BC Ferries said it will try to move people who booked the canceled ferry to another Saturday service.
If that’s not possible, BC Ferries says it will issue refunds.
“The safety of our passengers and crew is of the utmost importance to us,” BC Ferries said in a service announcement around 11 a.m.
“We will continue to monitor this weather system and share further information as it becomes available.”
